Playing the island game

The island is an interactive games platform. It features a total of seven games and quizzes about water use. These can be played one after another using the 'PLAY' button on the flashing phone. You can also go to particular games using the 'JUMP' button on the phone.

In the top left corner of the screen you can see your current score and current league position. The four indicator levels also show how well you are doing in the four scoring categories:

  1. Environment
  2. Budget
  3. Happiness
  4. Water Supply

How well you play also changes the way this island looks. If you play well, the island will remain beautiful and green and the villagers will stay happy. However, if you play badly the environment will suffer, the grass will turn brown, and the villagers will become angry and depressed.

Your water lab

Use the different instruments in the Scottish Water Monitoring Lab to check whether there is any problem with the island's water supply.

There are four scientific instruments you can use:

  1. The Pipe Flow Meter checks whether water is flowing properly through the pipe network.
  2. The Weather Monitor shows satellite pictures of weather systems over the island.
  3. The Pond Dip tests samples from ponds, rivers and lochs for water pollution.
  4. The Loch Levels Monitor checks the water level in the reservoir.

Bring up the different instruments using the buttons at the bottom of the screen.

The league table

The league shows how well you are doing compared to other players and teams in your league. If you are playing the Island Game at school the league will show how well you are doing compared to other teams in your class. If you are playing at home the league will show all the players who have entered scores across Scotland. Remember, you will not know your final position in the league until you have played all the games and quizzes. Good luck!
